Who is Dr. Kendra Pope?

As a board-certified veterinary oncologist, Dr. Pope knows the challenges pet owners face when their beloved companion is given a challenging diagnosis. Through the treatment of patients with the most complex diseases, she has been able to help owners navigate through diagnoses, symptoms, and side effects of treatment, increasing survival times and improving quality of life. She is one of only four integrative veterinary oncologists in the United States also extensively trained in holistic modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and intravenous nutrient therapies, which provides her with additional tools to utilize towards the best possible outcome and quality of life for every patient.

In 2023, Dr. Pope began her mission of educating and promoting the legitimacy of integrative therapies through her veterinary training program, certifying veterinarians as Integrative Veterinary Cancer Care Practitioners (IVCCP). By certifying and training veterinarians all over the country, and the world, we will be able to begin making this powerful medicine available to patients all over the world.

In 2024, Dr. Pope continued her mission to educate pet parents across the globe, especially for those unable to access her through her physical practice by creating her comprehensive Pet Cancer Prevention Course. This in-depth course provides pet parents with all the information and support needed to assess their pet’s individual risk of cancer and the tools and steps to correct it. Through creating this course and the pet parent community that follows, Dr. Pope continues to empower pet parents with the knowledge to guide them, the steps to take to execute their plans, and the confidence that they are doing everything they can to create the longest and healthiest life for their pets!

Dr. Pope always knew she was going to become a veterinarian, and when her first spoken word as a young child was ‘Buddy,’ the name of the family dog, her fate was sealed!
Dr. Pope began her academic career as a graduate of Virginia Tech in 2005 and went on to complete veterinary school at the University of Florida. While in veterinary school, she began her training in holistic therapies at the Chi Institute for Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and completed certifications in veterinary acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, veterinary food therapy, and Tui-na prior to graduation. Dr. Pope served as her veterinary school class president for 3 years as well as president of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association during the remaining year and delivered her veterinary school commencement speech in 2011. Dr. Pope went on to complete a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012, which was followed by a three-year residency in medical oncology at the University of Pennsylvania. She successfully obtained board certification in her specialty of oncology and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2015.
Dr. Pope’s holistic training is a never-ending journey of advancing knowledge, with certifications in herbal medicine, intravenous nutrient therapy, mistletoe therapy, as well as all innovative and novel integrative oncology approaches like medical ozone, targeted botanical therapy, and functional medicine diagnostics. Dr. Pope has trained in the Metabolic Approach to Cancer through the Metabolic Institute of Health and is currently preparing for certification as a Registered Herbalist, the highest accreditation offered in human herbal medicine. She is passionate about making a difference in the field of veterinary integrative medicine through publications, lecturing, and education and is currently involved in numerous clinical trials and is energized by collaboration and research with gifted colleagues. Dr. Pope serves on the Board of Directors for the World Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and past president of the American Board of Veterinary Botanical Medicine. She is President and Founder of Prism Veterinary Research Institute, a registered 501c3 promoting the legitimacy of integrative medicine and integrative oncology, as well as Founder and Medical Director for Prism Vet Health, her veterinary medical clinic which provides individualized and innovative holistic patient care.
Dr. Pope is a New Jersey native and is a devoted fan of Philadelphia’s teams. She enjoys staying active, traveling to places she has never been, salt air, and sea waves, laughing with friends and family, and spending quality time with her retired racehorse, Handsome. She feels blessed to have opened her practice in 2017 and is beyond grateful to live her passion every day.
